Nockchain Launch Target This Wednesday, May 21

We could probably make our initial target of this Monday, but we're going to pad it.

We currently have a feature-complete chain. We're calling this our Dumbnet to convey that—while it will be mainnet—it's nonetheless an early and experimental version.

We want to take a few extra days to run more launch tests with different network conditions, to root out lingering edge cases, and polish our open-source instructions as well.

Nockchain Issuance Schedule

Nockchain's issuance schedule will have a standard halving of the issuance rate at the end of each epoch. The epochs are less traditional and defined using a backoff algorithm, such that each successive epoch is longer than the last until it hits a final max epoch length of 7 years.

The hard cap on the number of nocks that will ever exist is set at 2³² (4,294,967,296).

Nockchain on Zero Hour with James Poulos

Zorp founder and CEO Logan Allen sat down with James Poulos for a wide-ranging discussion. Allen explains how PoW is critical infrastructure for linking economics to real-world energy expenditure and reorganizing incentives away from government control. Allen argues that Western technology has been harmed by an intellectual tradition that separates mechanistic thinking from teleological concerns, leading to the worship of power via tools and bureaucracy. This explains the conflict between Silicon Valley and the "Paper Belt," both tending toward a competition for control through mechanistic cults. Authentic human culture must be created and defended, Allen argues, from the "periphery."
