Proposing Nockchain Programmability
We are preparing to propose a protocol upgrade to the Nockchain network, the first of its kind and a step toward our longer-term vision. This upgrade will introduce the first set of programmability features.
Before we share a proposal with technical specs in the coming weeks, we wanted to provide an early look at what this upgrade will entail.
Miners and node operators, please take note: Action will be required to update your clients. We will provide instructions and time, but we encourage you to take note.
This upgrade is designed to enhance efficiency, privacy, and future-readiness. Here’s a preview of the components:
- Address Format Update: We plan to migrate to a pay-to-public-key-hash (P2PKH) address format. This will reduce address size by more than half, improving their usability and reducing onchain bloat.
- Segregated Witness (SegWit): By separating witness data from transaction data, SegWit simplifies transaction verification and introduces a privacy primitive. Users will be able to choose whether to reveal their lock script or post only a commitment to it.
- Lock Scripts & Architecture: The upgrade will improve the functionality of lock scripts and refine the transaction engine. This brings us closer to our intent-based composability model and simplifies the implementation of future protocol upgrades.
We’re really excited and we’ll keep you abreast of updates here and on X.
Ecosystem Momentum
The Nockchain ecosystem continues to grow. We’re delighted that people are finding Nockchain and appreciating its promise.
CoinGecko Listing
On August 22, $NOCK was listed on CoinGecko.
Community Growth
Our community channels have seen a notable jump in activity lately, linked to a series of research articles published by a few high-reach traders on X.
- Telegram: The number of posting members has increased by over 63% in the last week, with viewing members up over 66%. This is an all-time high for community engagement.
- Twitter/X: We're seeing clearly increased attention and excitement here as well. Search $NOCK to see for yourself.
Node Client Update
Last week, we pushed an update to the Nockchain node client. This release includes performance optimizations that increase the speed of node sync and transaction verification.
For developers, we have also migrated from unix sockets to gRPC for RPC communication. This change resolves the common "socket already in use" error and enables us to soon provide strongly-typed interfaces for interacting with a Nockchain node. This will simplify work for wallet developers, explorer builders, and application developers to build on Nockchain.
That's all for this week! If you have any questions or comments, hit reply.
Get Involved
The best way to get involved is through our Telegram channel.
The Zorp team is there every day, alongside the larger Nockchain developer community.
